Claude MONET is a triply innovative artist, breaking the multi-secular straightjacket of             

      classisism; He abandons the darkness of the studio and paints in the open air, he bathes in light . .  He conveys the accuracy of the stroke behind the glorification of light and color, staging, with genius, the play of reflections. .  It deals primarily with the beauty of nature, the joyful life of the guinguettes on the banks of the Marne. . He is the painter of popular life captured in full motion!

Claude Monet, a central figure of Impressionism, revolutionized the way of looking at the world. Where academic painting sought precision, Monet chose vibration, the moment, sensation, life. .

MONET from 1840 to 1859

__________________

1840 - Oscar-Claude Monet, known as Claude Monet, was born on November 14, 1840, in Paris and died on December 5, 1926, in Giverny . He is a French painter, considered one of the founders of impressionism . 1857 - Death of his mother - Meeting with Eugène BOUDIN (recognized painter - his mentor) - 1858 – the first LANDSCAPES - Military service in Algeria and return to Normandy (1861-1862) .

CM - 2  - CHAPITRE 2 - MONET from 1860 to 1899

MONET from 1860 to 1879

Military service in Algeria and return to Normandy (1861-1862) .

1863 painter copyist at the Louvre museum - 1864 first painting done outside the studio, Workshop with Frédéric Bazille - In Spring 1863, become a copyist at the Louvre museum, Monet paints at Barbizon - Mid-May 1864, Monet returns to Honfleur in the company of Bazille - at the end of 1864, Claude settles with Bazille in a workshop in Paris - two canvases from the estuary of the Seine ( Honfleur ) seen at the 1865 salon - "La Pointe de la Hève" and " Embouchure de la Seine " .

MONET from  1880 to 1889

1886 - "the Woman with the umbrella turned to the right" and "the Woman with the umbrella turned to the left  ) , the 'Rochers de Belle-Île' - 1888 - Claude Monet in Antibes (Côte d'Azur) - Claude Monet in the Creuse 1889 - he paints about twenty paintings, nine of which have as a motif the 'ravin de la Creuse' - 1889 - MONET – Le Mecenat, he is totally involved in obtaining the necessary subscriptions for the purchase of Manet’s Olympia and donates them to the Louvre museum .

1890 – purchase of the Clos de Giverny - new MONET exhibition - 1891 – new series: Les Peupliers - In 1891, Monet follows the course of the river l'Epte - On October 8, 1891, he pays the timber merchant to delay the felling of these trees - Le temps des séries - Les Meules (1890-1891) - 1892 – 1895 - Rouen Cathedrals series - 1892 - Monet faithful friend of PISSARO - 1893 - 2nd marriage of MONET - 1893 – creation of the GARDEN of Giverny - 1898 - Death of his Friend BOUDIN, his initiator - 1899 – Death of his daughter-in-law Suzanne

CM - 3  - CHAPITRE 3 -- MONET from 1900 to 1926 -

Trips to London (1899-1904) - The series 'Views of the Thames in London' (1900 to 1904) was exhibited in May and June 1904 and constitutes the greatest triumph of his career. He is at the height of his creativity and technicality - 1900 – PARIS UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION
The supremacy of his art recognized by the nation - 1900 - The Water Lilies - He paints in 1901 Leicester Square, at night - 1902 - their last children leave the family fold; 1904 - Monet takes his wife, in 1904, to Madrid, then to Toledo - 1904 - Monet exhibits at Durand-Street 37 views of the Thames . . .

MONET from 1910 to 1919

1912 - Operation Cataracte and 'great decorations' - he exhibits twenty-nine at the Bernheim gallery, from May 28 to June 8, 1912.  In 1914, he suffered the pain of losing his son Jean as a result of a long illness.  1914 – The NYMPHEAS and the friendship of the journalist CLEMENCEAU - In November 1918, he offered Clemenceau two decorative panels that he signed on the 11th, the day of the armistice and the end of the First World War. It is, according to the painter, the only way he had to take part in the victory - In November 1919, Clemenceau advised him to have his eyes operated on - In December of that same year Death of Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

MONET from 1920 to 1926

1920 – 80 th anniversary of the homage of France - 1922 - the sight of the master chancelle - In April 1922, gift of nineteen panels - Monet finally reluctantly accepted the right-eye operation performed by Doctor Charles Coutela on January 10, 1923. 

DEATH OF MONET (December 5, 1926) - Monet contracted a lung infection which nailed him to bed in 1926. Suffering from lung cancer, he dies on December 5 around one o'clock in the afternoon. 

Funeral, the magnificent gesture of the journalist CLEMENCEAU who drapes his coffin with a colored cloth instead of the black mortuary sheet and says:

- " MONET must be buried with color! "
