Meanders with softened curves, hundreds of sometimes inhabited islands; clear white chalk cliffs following wooded banks; it is on this prestigious river, the SEINE, that our boat will take us at a maximum speed of 17 km-h, from the confluence of the Marne downstream to the prestigious city of Rouen and further HONFLEUR and the MANCHE. . .

La Seine . . . Her name would be inspired by that of a Celtic goddess, named 'Sequana' .
First strangeness this river should be called "YONNE", why?
Because, lower in flow than its powerful tributary that flows to Montereau-Fault-Yonne, in the Brie, . . .
According to the surveys, the least questionable, the average flow of this one at the confluence (93 m3 per second) is higher than that of the Seine, which is only 80 m3 at this location; according to hydrographic practices, it is the Seine that flows into the Yonne . . .

 - first, follow one another, the Eiffel Tower, the Orsay museum, the Louvre, Notre-Dame (finally standing after the disaster of 2019). As well as the Conciergerie, the college of the Four Nations whose oval dome overlooks the five academies and so many others . . .

The painters of the 19th century, and especially the "impressionists", had elected the Seine as the cradle of their school and their art of freezing nature, and their cult of reflection "abandoning several centuries of painting too academic. The contrasting skies of the " Vexin", the astonishing white reliefs of chalky banks, the flaring of lights and the changing reflections against a backdrop of riverbanks with green foliage, delighted Claude Monet (at Giverny), but also Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir and below, on the cloud-topped beaches of the English Channel, Eugène Boudin . . .

HONFLEUR and  ETRETAT

___________________

HONFLEUR is a French commune located in the department of Calvados, in the Normandy region . Port city, it is located on the south shore of the SEINE estuary, opposite Le Havre, very close to the outlet of the NORMANDY BRIDGE.

It is best known for its Old Basin, characterized by its houses with facades covered with slates, and for having been repeatedly represented by artists, including Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Barthold Jongkind, forming the School of Honfleur . These painters and others meet at the Saint-Siméon farm on the heights of the city and contribute to the emergence of the Impressionist movement . Alphonse Allais and Erik Satie were born there on the same street .

ETRETAT

ETRETAT, diametrically opposed to HONFLEUR in relation to Le Havre and the estuary of the Seine is a superb Norman village;

world-famous for its cliffs and immense white chalk arches. we could not fail to make a road detour to admire the charms of its traditional Norman architecture.

The village of ETRETAT inspired the most illustrious artists among whom a certain Claude Monet, world-famous . A few steps, a few looks at his building, are enough to understand why . . . 
The singular shape of its cliffs, its shifting arcs of chalk, tease the imagination . The rustle of pebbles stirred by the swell, the strong smell of nets drying in the sun, the colorful boats, such is the background sound and visual that accompanies our visit .
