From PARIS to ROUEN 
then from ROUEN to Le Havre, and to the MANCHE SEA !

The journey of a beautiful page from the HISTORY of FRANCE

Meanders with softened curves, hundreds of sometimes inhabited islands; clear white chalk cliffs following wooded banks; it is on this prestigious river, the SEINE, that our boat will take us at a maximum speed of 17 km-h, from the confluence of the Marne downstream to the prestigious city of Rouen and further HONFLEUR and the MANCHE. . . 

TOPONYMY

La Seine . . . Her name would be inspired by that of a Celtic goddess, named 'Sequana'.
First strangeness this river should be called "YONNE", why?
Because, lower in flow than its powerful tributary that flows to Montereau-Fault-Yonne, in the Brie, . . .
According to the surveys, the least questionable, the average flow of this one at the confluence (93 m3 per second) is higher than that of the Seine, which is only 80 m3 at this location; according to hydrographic practices, it is the Seine that flows into the Yonne . .

The source of the deaf Yonne in the Morvan, within the Gravelle forest, on the territory of the village of Glux-en-Glenne. The Yonne is born there, all timidly waters impregnating a bog, on Mount Préneley, at 738 meters above sea level. The Seine, on the other hand, rises at an altitude of 780 m in Côte-d'Or on the Langres plateau. 
 

 Strangely, these two streams will flow in parallel towards the northwest and the village of Montereau, refusing their ‘wives  . . 
Before reaching Paris, the two united rivers bathe Melun, a favorite stay of the first 'Capetians'; from its port, raw materials used to flow down by river towards the capital. This trade was flourishing for a long time; it explains the power of the boatmen who, from ancient times, animated and controlled Paris (originally called 'Lutetia').

By way of consequences, these boatmen, controlling the traffic of goods, made a fortune and imposed themselves in the government of the city .

In the Latin Quarter, at the Cluny museum, one can admire a Gallo-Roman column, five meters high, assembled in stone from the Oise; it owes its name of "pillar of the Nautes" to the brotherhood of sailors who mastered the river transport of various goods and their trade .

These boaters retained long control over the affairs of the city. The capital of France owes them its emblem 'the nave' and its motto:

- " Fluctuat nec mergitur "("She vacillates but does not sink") .

    - first, follow one another, the Eiffel Tower, the Orsay museum, the Louvre, Notre-Dame (finally standing after the disaster of 2019). As well as the Conciergerie, the college of the Four Nations whose oval dome overlooks the five academies and so many others. .
